- Welcome to Buxton Press
- surrounded by rolling hills
- natural springs and flowing water
- in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside
Situated on the edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park, here at Buxton Press we are reminded daily of the importance of our global responsibilities which help shape and underpin our business ethos and drive our pledge on behalf of our clients, staff and community for environmental best practice.
From the enthusiastic engagement of staff who recycle batteries, ink cartridges and sort waste for recycling, to printing on responsibly sourced paper using alcohol free printing procedures and vegetable based inks, each aspect of our business has been examined in our commitment to the continual improvement of our green credentials and we are delighted to have been recognised for our achievements to date which include PrintWeek’s, “Environmental Company of the Year” Award.
Certified to Chain of Custody Standards for both FSC® and PEFC™
Chain-of-Custody certification traces the path of products from the forest through the supply chain, verifying that certified material is identified or kept separate from non-certified material throughout the chain. Buxton is Certified to Chain of Custody Standards for both FSC® and PEFC™ and can offer use of the appropriate logos on your publications within the guidelines of the respective organisations.
Certified to UKAS ISO 14001:2015 Standards
ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system (EMS). It demonstrates commitment to the continual improvement of its environmental performance through on-going training and development and addresses environmental issues including waste reduction, energy efficiency and sustainability.
Environmental initiatives… sustainable solutions
Investing in the latest technology, machinery and lighting goes hand in hand with improved energy efficiencies. Reducing energy requirements reduces the demand from power plants which in turn helps decrease greenhouse gas emissions
LED lighting is installed throughout our premises and as LED lights can be up to 80% more efficient than traditional lighting and 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat.
Our factory incorporates the latest insulation materials to minimise heat loss with electrical power correction equipment, auto-temperature controllers and infra-red light sensors contributing to a reduction in overall power consumption.
Sustainability is the quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting its natural resources, and thereby helping to contribute to supporting its long-term ecological balance: for now and future generations.
Recycling to minimise waste
In line with our Environmental Policy, we strive to recycle as much as we can: paper waste, used printing plates, rags, printer cartridges, cardboard and polythene are all recycled and we have targets to reduce overall consumption of raw materials and natural resources to try to prevent pollution, reduce transportation miles and minimise waste.
Compostable magazine wrap
Buxton’s compostable magazine wrap:
- does not contain any plastic but is manufactured using bio-polymers e.g. a mix of starches, cellulose, vegetable oils and their combinations
- is starch-based and suitable for home composting e.g. in a garden / food waste bin
- meets the criteria for the industrial compostability of packaging, ref: EN 13432 and therefore can be labelled as fully compostable
Our traditional polywrap is recyclable and can be disposed of in the bins that supermarkets have for carrier bags etc. Recycled plastics typically go back into the system to be made into sacks or building products.
There’s still lots more we want to do but we like to think we’re already starting to make a positive contribution to our surroundings.
