Global Recycling Day is an annual event which takes place on 18th March with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of recycling and promoting sustainability in order to reduce waste and ultimately help protect the environment.
Recycling is a key component in a circular economy and recycling materials such as paper, glass and metal not only helps conserve natural resources but also helps to reduce energy consumption; contributes to the lowering of greenhouse gas emissions and minimises waste going to landfill; reducing the overall strain on the planet and its resources.
Paper is not only an amazingly versatile material, it's also probably one of the most widely recycled materials in circulation in the world!
Although it can only be recycled 5 or 6 times as the fibres eventually become too short, recycled paper can be easily transformed into other paper products such as newspapers, cardboard, tissue paper, and egg cartons and is even used in loft insulation!
